Mike Brown and the Sacramento Kings were able to head into the NBA’s All-Star break with a 102-98 win over the Denver Nuggets Wednesday night.

But in his post-game press conference, the second player Brown singled out with praise didn’t even see a minute of action.

“Mason Jones, we just signed him to a two-way deal. He didn’t play at all tonight [Wednesday] but his impact in the game was huge,” Brown said. “The energy he brought from the bench was phenomenal. Every timeout, before I could even take three steps on the floor, he’s sprinting past me, high-fiving guys, talking to guys during the game. And we have a fairly quiet group, so for him to bring that type of energy was phenomenal.”

Brown went on to say his son Elijah, who’s a video coordinator for the Kings, reached out to his dad to say Mason Jones’ energy could be felt through the TV.

“I know that I felt it, the players felt it and our coaches felt it. So his energy was great for us in a game that we could have easily folded,” Brown said.

Who is Mason Jones?

The Kings signed Jones to a two-way contract earlier this year. As a member of the Stockton Kings, he’s averaged 13.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 6.8 assists in just under 30 minutes a game this season. He also leads the G League in three-point field goal percentage and is in the Top-15 in assists.

Jones went undrafted in the 2020 NBA Draft but has jumped around the league since then, playing for the Houston Rockets, Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers.
