Eric Martins has high hopes for Nick Kurtz following walk-off homer

Winners of four straight, with their most recent being thanks to a walk-off homer from rookie Nick Kurtz, the Athletics may have found their stride.

A’s third base coach Eric Martins joined The Allen Stiles Show on Tuesday to discuss the ceiling of Kurtz, Jacob Wilson’s hitting streak coming to an end, Zack Gelof’s future, and more.

“It’s probably the best (moment) of the year so far,” Martins told Stiles regarding Kurtz’s Monday night walkoff against the visiting Houston Astros.

Martins walked through what he believes makes the rookie special, including saying he thinks “people sleep on his athleticism,” he said on the show.

“The sky is the limit for him, for sure.”

The first batch of MLB All Star Game voting results are in, and Jacob Wilson is in play to start this year’s midsummer classic.

Wilson, the rookie phenom shortstop of the Athletics, has secured over 560,000 votes to start the July 15th MLB All-Star Game in Atlanta, putting him nearly 40,000 votes ahead of last year’s MVP runner-up and Kansas City Royals star shortstop Bobby Witt Jr.

The 23-year-old currently ranks second in all of baseball in batting average (.362), only trailing reigning American League MVP winner Aaron Judge.
