A’s trim roster as Spring Training winds down

With just over two weeks remaining until Opening Day, the Athletics continued to trim their Spring Training roster as the club moves closer to finalizing its big-league group.

The A’s announced a series of roster cuts Monday, optioning six players to Triple-A Las Vegas while reassigning several others to minor league camp as competition intensifies in the final stretch of camp.

Among those optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas was infielder Brett Harris, who appeared in 32 games for the A’s last season (.274 average over 84 plate appearances).

Here are the latest moves from A’s camp as Spring Training enters its final stages:

Athletics Announce 15 Roster Moves

The A’s optioned left-handed pitcher Brady Basso, right-handed pitchers Mason Barnett Braden Nett and Chen Zhong-Ao Zhuang, infielder Brett Harris, and outfielder Junior Perez to Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today.

The A’s also reassigned left-handed pitchers Jamie Arnold and Ben Bowden, right-handed pitchers Geoff Hartlieb and Cade Morris, catcher Bryan Lavastida, infielders Euribiel Angeles and Joshua Kuroda-Graurer, and outfielders Clark Elliott and Ryan Lasko to their minor league camp.

The A’s now have 46 players in camp, which includes 32 players on the 40-man roster and 14 non-roster invitees.  The breakdown includes 24 pitchers, four catchers, 10 infielders and eight outfielders.
