Following career season, Brent Rooker undergoes forearm surgery
Although Oakland Athletics slugger Brent Rooker had a career year in 2024, the 29-year-old was apparently playing through an injury.

There weren’t many hitters that had a better 2024 season than Brent Rooker–but can you imagine if the slugger was fully healthy?
Over the weekend, Oakland Athletics general manager David Forst met with the media to share his thoughts on the 2024 season–the franchise’s final year in the Bay Area before relocating to Sacramento in 2025 and potentially Las Vegas in 2028.
During his press conference, Forst revealed that Rooker, who experienced a career year in 2024, was not healthy for the bulk of the season.
“He was not 100% healthy all year,” Forst said of Rooker, who was dealing with a forearm extensor injury that prevented him from playing in the outfield this season. “I’m not a doctor, but it strikes me as very impressive that he was able to battle through what he did and put up the offensive season that he had.”
More on A’s slugger Brent Rooker
Rooker underwent surgery last Tuesday to repair his forearm, and Forst expects the 2023 All-Star to be ready for Spring Training in February.
It was a memorable 2024 campaign for Rooker, as the Mississippi State alumni batted a career-high .293 while also setting career-highs in home runs (39), RBI (112), hits (160), runs scored (82), and stolen bases (11).
Among MLB leaders, Rooker finished the season tied for fifth in home runs, tied for fourth in RBI, sixth in slugging percentage (.562), and eighth in on-base-plus-slugging-percentage (.927).
While Forst mentioned that the A’s would look to add to their roster this offseason ahead of the move to Sacramento, Rooker is undoubtedly the franchise’s best player moving forward and should be–keyword, should be–an integral piece of this team’s growing core when play begins at Sutter Health Park in 2025.
