The San Francisco Giants released a series of medical updates on Monday that underscore the team’s growing list of health concerns as the season progresses.
With multiple contributors sidelined or working their way back, the San Francisco Giants are facing yet another test of depth early in the summer as they remain near the bottom of the National League standings.
The most notable development involves veteran outfielder Harrison Bader, who became the first domino in a flurry of transactions after landing on the injured list with left plantar fasciitis.

The 31-year-old is currently in a walking boot and is scheduled to seek a second opinion from Dr. Robert Anderson later this week. Bader, who signed a two-year, $20.5 million deal this offseason, had yet to find consistent production at the plate prior to the injury.
Through 30 games, Bader was hitting just .170 with five home runs and 14 RBI, making his absence a mixed blow for a San Francisco Giants lineup still searching for rhythm.
On the pitching side, the San Francisco Giants received encouraging news regarding Tyler Mahle. The right-hander, who has battled a left hamstring strain, is set to begin a throwing progression and is expected to return to the mound later this week.
Mahle, who signed a one-year, $10 million deal before the season, has struggled to find his footing with a 1-7 record and a 6.04 ERA. His return could provide the Giants with much-needed innings as the rotation looks to stabilize.

Elsewhere, outfielder Heliot Ramos is continuing his recovery from a right quad strain. Ramos is currently rehabbing in Arizona and is beginning a hitting progression.
Before suffering the injury on May 15, Ramos was one of the more consistent offensive contributors for the San Francisco Giants, batting .267 with four home runs and 20 RBI.
Additional updates include Jared Oliva, who remains on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento as he recovers from a left wrist hamate fracture, and Joel Peguero, who was placed on the 60-day injured list with a moderate left hamstring strain.
San Francisco (23-37) is a season-worst 14 games below .500 as they stare at a nine-game deficit in the National League Wild Card standings.
