Report: SF Giants expected to hire Zack Minasian Jr. as next GM

On Day 1 of the 2024 MLB offseason, it appears the SF Giants already have its’ next general manager in mind with Zack Minasian Jr.

Reports emerged Thursday morning that the San Francisco Giants are expected to announce Zack Minasian as the club’s next GM on Friday. Minasian has been a part of SF’s scouting department since 2019, becoming the vice president in 2022. After the Giants let go of both Farhan Zaidi and Pete Putila over the past few months, Buster Posey and the front office move seem to be moving in more of an analytical and in-house approach ahead of the 2025 season.

Bobby Valentine was the first to share the report, deleting the tweet shortly thereafter. USA Today’s Bob Nightengale confirmed the rumor midday Thursday.

The San Francisco Giants are expected to announce Friday that Zack Minasian is their new GM. Minasian’s promotion makes the Minasian Family the first to have two brothers as GMs at the same time in MLB history with Perry as the Angels GM.

Should the announcement become official, Zack Minasian will serve directly under the Giants President of Baseball Operations in Posey. Additionally, Minasian would make history, becoming the first family to have two GMs in the MLB simultaneously. His brother, Perry, is currently the GM of the Los Angeles Angels. Their father, Zack Sr., was the long-time clubhouse leader of the Texas Rangers.
