According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Sacramento Kings have signed guard Daeqwon Plowden to a two-year, $5.1 million contract, rewarding one of the team’s biggest surprises from the 2025-26 season.

Plowden’s path back to Sacramento was anything but conventional.

After going undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft, the 27-year-old spent time in the NBA G League before signing a two-way contract with the Atlanta Hawks before the 2024-25 season.

Plowden impressed with the College Park Skyhawks and appeared in six NBA games with Atlanta before being included in last summer’s seven-team trade that sent Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets.

After being waived by the Phoenix Suns, Plowden stood out during NBA Summer League with the Golden State Warriors. While he didn’t earn a contract there, his performances, including several strong outings in the California Classic, caught the attention of Sacramento’s front office, which signed him to a two-way deal.

That decision quickly paid off.

More on Kings guard Daeqwon Plowden

Following consistent production with the Stockton Kings, Daeqwon Plowden worked his way into Doug Christie’s rotation, appearing in 32 NBA games while making seven starts.

Plowden averaged 10.8 points and 3.0 rebounds per game while shooting 33 percent from beyond the arc on 5.8 attempts per contest.

The final stretch of the season is when Plowden really shined, averaging 14.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 46 percent from the field and 37 percent from downtown on 7.6 attempts per contest over 15 games (logging an average of 30.3 minutes a night).

His energy, perimeter defense, and timely scoring made him a valuable contributor late in the season when Sacramento was playing without the likes of Keegan Murray, Zach LaVine, Domantas Sabonis, and De’Andre Hunter.

Speaking after the season ended, Plowden reflected on when everything began to click with the Kings.

“Around March is when I really found my niche and the game really slowed down for me,” Plowden said in an April interview with Sactown Sports’ The Drive Guys.

He also expressed how much Sacramento had come to mean to him during his first season with the organization.

“Sacramento has been welcoming to me. Definitely enjoyed my time here and enjoyed what I was able to do this season, and even just experience in the city.”

Now, the Kings have ensured that experience will continue.

After entering the offseason with an uncertain future, Daeqwon Plowden has earned both the organization’s confidence and a standard NBA contract, giving Sacramento another versatile wing as it continues building its roster under general manager Scott Perry.

Good move, pretty solid all around wing. Congrats to him! Just has to get his shootings %s up a tad and improve the shot selection, and besides that...he doesn't have many weaknesses.
