New York Times author Kellen Browning joined Cattles and Ramie on Friday to talk about his latest article, “Sacramento’s Latest Craze Is Like a Bat Signal.” The Davis native wrote about how the Sacramento Kings were able to capture the hearts of more than just basketball fans with a giant purple light.

Topics discussed include:

  • His first time seeing the beam and his reaction
  • “It was a religious experience for me, seeing it for the first time. I remember craning my neck out of the window of the car to try to soak it in. So I was transformed.”
  • Growing up as a Kings fan and his thoughts on how the team is playing this season
  • The coolest thing he learned about while doing research for his story
  • What surprised him the most when writing the story was learning how much the players have embraced the beam
  • If there are any follow-up articles planned if the Kings make the postseason
