The 49ers head into a must-win game against the Cowboys Sunday, with one Deebo Samuel raring to go despite sickness.
The San Francisco 49ers wide receiver has a chance to play Week 8 against Dallas, per coach Kyle Shanahan. However, Samuel will be held out of practice Wednesday in order to allow his body more time to recover. There is no timeline for his return to the field, except that he is doing better than expected.
Additionally, Samuel was seen in good spirits in the locker room, and did work on the side field during Wednesday’s session.
George Kittle (foot), Deebo Samuel (illness), Jauan Jennings (hip) won’t practice Wednesday.

Samuel has “a chance to play” Week 8, per HC Shanahan.
Deebo Samuel, 28, was hospitalized after last Sunday’s game due to a pneumonia-like illness. The wideout tried to play through the sickness after falling illness 24 hours prior. While Samuel suited up, he only played four snaps, unable to catch his breath. He was eventually ruled out after fluid was found his lungs, leading to the hospitalization.
Samuel was discharged Monday, posting to his social media that he is okay.
“He went in last night. I think it started acting up in the middle of the night Saturday night or early Sunday morning. And then it just kind of evolved as the day went,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday regarding Samuel’s timeline. “So once we found out he had the fluid in his lungs and stuff after the game, then I believe they sent him over there. I’m not sure the timeline of it, but I just found out that’s where he was Sunday night when I was at home.”
After placing fellow WR Brandon Aiyuk on injured reserve Wednesday, the 49ers are ever more reliant on Samuel to play the rest of the season.
In addition to Samuel, WR Jauan Jennings (hip) and tight end George Kittle (foot) did not practice Wednesday as well. The former also missed Week 7 due to the injury, putting his stats this weekend in jeopardy.
