The 49ers decide to hold out their star pass rusher for Week 6.
San Francisco 49ers defense end Nick Bosa has been ruled inactive for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons, per a team statement.
Bosa, 24, sustained a groin strain during Week 5’s contest against the Carolina Panthers. The star pass-rusher noted the injury at halftime, trying to work through it before being pulled all together in the third quarter.
After missing out on the team’s first two practices of the week, Bosa made it onto the field for Friday’s walkthrough in West Virginia, giving hope that he’ll suit up in Georgia Sunday.

“Yeah, he looked good, but everything’s walkthrough today too, so hopefully [will get him back Sunday],” Kyle Shanahan said Friday after practice.
Unfortunately that hope was only fictional, as the team’s all-pro defensive lineman was I’ll miss his first game of the 2022 regular season.
Bosa has been among the very best in the NFL this season, tied for first in sacks, six, through five games. Already down defensive tackles Arik Armstead (foot, ankle) and Javon Kinlaw (knee), the 49ers will need to rely on a team effort this weekend if they want to make it back to Santa Clara on a three-game win streak.
