The Oakland Athletics have made a trade deadline move by acquiring starting pitcher Tanner Roark from the Cincinnati Reds, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
The A’s sent 2018 second-round pick outfielder Jameson Hannah to the Reds in the deal.
Roark, in his seventh MLB season, is 6-7 with a 4.24 ERA and 108 strikeouts. The A’s will slot him into the rotation mix along with newly acquired Homer Bailey, Daniel Mengden, Mike Fiers, Brett Anderson and Chris Bassitt. It is not yet known who will slide into the bullpen, as the possibility of a six-man rotation seems unlikely for the Athletics.
In 2016, Roark posted his best season of his career, a top-ten Cy Young award finish with a 16-10 record and 2.83 ERA. Since then, he has cumulative numbers of 28-33 with a 4.44 ERA.
