After spending the past two seasons as head coach of the Sacramento Kings’ G-League affiliate, Bobby Jackson is heading to Philadelphia, per NBA insider Marc Stein.
Jackson, 50, was a 12-year NBA veteran and Sixth Man of the Year winner with the Kings during a career that etched the former guard’s name into the hearts of Sacramento fans.
Following a successful season as the head coach of the Stockton Kings that saw the team finish with a league-best 25-7 record, Jackson will join recently-hired Philadelphia 76ers head coach Nick Nurse’s staff for the 2023-24 season.

In what has already been a busy offseason of coaching movement around the NBA, Jackson is the first notable piece of Sacramento’s coaching tree to depart as we inch closer to the most active portion of the summer.
Kings associate head coach Jordi Fernández was involved in talks with both the Phoenix Suns and Toronto Raptors regarding their head coaching vacancies, but both teams have since filled the positions with Frank Vogel and Darko Rajakovic, respectively.
As Sacramento fans grappled with the possibility of losing Fernández to a head coaching gig, it’s Jackson who has departed as he continues his ascent up the NBA coaching ladder.
Over two seasons in the G-League, Jackson compiled a head coaching record of 40-25 while leading the Kings to the playoffs in 2022-23.
The Kings will now seek a replacement for Jackson in Stockton while also focusing on building around a Sacramento team that made the postseason for the first time since 2006.
