The San Francisco 49ers may have just exhaled a huge sigh of relief, with Deebo Samuel avoiding the worst possible injury news.
Reports emerged Monday morning that the 49ers’ star wide receiver avoided a major injury to his surgically repaired shoulder. The team put Samuel in an assortment of medical procedures Sunday, with tests showing no hairline fracture, or any fracture, to the area.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport delivered the news Monday.
“My understanding is, there’s no fracture in the shoulder of Deebo Samuel, which is good news,” Rapoport shared about Deebo Samuel. “As far as the status going forward, that still remains up in the air. Kyle Shanahan will talk to reporters later today, but they believe this is not a major injury. Samuel got to work on rehab right after the injury happened and was telling people that he thinks he will be OK.”

Samuel first got banged up on the opening series for SF, being evaluated for a concussion after a gang tackle by Green Bay. He was able to return for a couple of series before he went off the field again with shoulder discomfort. Unable to play through the pain, Samuel went into the locker from before halftime of the NFC Divisional Round.
Other reports indicate that while the player avoided major injury, he is seen as “50-50” to play next Sunday against the Detroit Lions.
Deebo Samuel, 28, suffered a similar injury to the same shoulder in Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns. That hairline fracture required surgery, knocking him out of action for two games.
The 49ers went 0-3 during that stretch, missing both Samuel and left tackle Trent Williams for most of it.
The Red & Gold will look to get Samuel as much recovery as possible before the NFC Championship, needing every man to beat the Detroit Lions.
