Lost in the shuffle of all the Damian Lillard news over the last few days was a report about the 2025 NBA All-Star Game.
According to The Athletic’s Shams Sharania, the league is nearing a deal for the Chase Center to be the home of All-Star weekend festivities in two years. The 2024 NBA All-Star Game is set to be played in Indianapolis.
If the deal is made, it would be the second time the Golden State Warriors host an All-Star Game. The first time they hosted was in 2000 at the Oracle Arena.
The last time an All-Star Game was in California was in 2018 when the Lakers and Clippers co-hosted the festivities in Los Angeles.
Fans in Sacramento might be asking why the Warriors are playing host before the Kings. The Chase Center opened in 2019, while the Golden 1 Center opened in 2016. Sacramento has never hosted an All-Star game, either.
When Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg spoke with Sactown Sports earlier this year, he said the reason Sacramento hasn’t been awarded an All-Star Game is because of the lack of hotels in Downtown Sacramento.
The reports of the Warriors hosting an All-Star weekend come on the heels of reports the Golden State Warriors “are close to bringing a WNBA franchise to the Bay Area.” If a deal is secured,The Athletic’s Marcus Thompson II writes the team would play at the Chase Center and would be headquartered in Oakland.
