Not necessarily a surprise, the 49ers have picked up the fifth-year option for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
The news was reported prior to the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. San Francisco will extend Aiyuk’s rookie deal to include a salary of $14.124 million in the 2024 season. He will make almost four million for the 2023 season.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was first with the news Friday, confirmed by local media thereafter. Also receiving fifth-year options Friday was Chargers’ quarterback Justin Herbert and Falcons’ cornerback AJ Terrell.

Waiting until this week to make a decision on Aiyuk, the 49ers’ front office assured the fanbase that “BA” would not be going anywhere this year.
We love Brandon Aiyuk and I’m excited about Brandon being a part of this team,” general manager John Lynch stated Monday. You can’t keep everyone, we’re trying to do something special this year and Brandon is going to be a big part of that and beyond as well…I feel like he made another big step last year, and I think the best is yet to come and so we want him being a part of it and at some point, yeah, you have to figure things out and I guess we’ll take that as it comes, but as of right now and into the future, we’re really excited about Brandon Aiyuk and where he is at as a pro. The work he’s done to develop as a pro and become one of our core players here.”
Brandon Aiyuk, a Rocklin native, was electric for the 49ers in 2023. BA became the team’s leading wideout, snagging 78 catches for 1015 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. He will return to an offensive arsenal consisting of Deebo Samuel, George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey.
