The 49ers will always be in the market for ball carriers, doing so Wednesday with Patrick Taylor Jr.
Reports emerged Wednesday that the San Francisco 49ers were signing the versatile running back. The deal is reportedly for one year, locking down another rusher for the Red & Gold’s offense. Further details regarding the deal have not been disclosed at this time.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter was first with the news Wednesday, confirmed by the player’s agency, Equity Sports.

Patrick Taylor, 25, went undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft, getting picked up by Green Bay shortly thereafter. Used sporadically over the last three seasons, Taylor has featured in 34 contests for the Packers. He has racked up 261 yards rushing on 65 carries, to go along with one touchdown.
The University of Memphis alum has slowly churned out a bigger role in three years, playing the most snaps in his NFL career last season. He has also been a focal point of special teams, playing 40% of the snaps in 2023 (124 total). The 49ers will surely be interested in that versatility for 2024.
Currently, the 49ers have four RBs on the roster. Former starter Elijah Mitchell is entering the final year of his contract, making the addition of Taylor even more interesting moving forward.
The 49ers have been busy in free agency this offseason, adding key players on both offense and defense. Unfortunately, SF missed out on tight end Brock Wright, with the Detroit Lions matching his offer sheet.
