Week 1 of the 2023 season couldn’t have gone better for the 49ers, now heading to Los Angeles after a dominant showing.
On the latest edition of the Return of the Empire podcast, Amil Fragoso and Nate Littlefield recap the 49ers’ Week 1 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers and what went right for the Red & Gold last Sunday. The boys also discussed what San Francisco can do with all their cap room, creating $41.5 million in space thanks to last week’s contract restructures. Finally, they look ahead to Week 2 against the LA Rams, and how the 49ers could look heading into SoFi Stadium.
All that & much more on the Return of the Empire.
“We have such a history, with the coaching staffs being similar for so long and the players being similar for so long. There’s a lot of new guys out there, them playing in one game and trying to figure out some of their new players that you don’t have a history with,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said this week. “But, once you turn on the tape and try to see it, yeah, you don’t know some of the guys, but you definitely know 99 [Los Angeles Rams DL Aaron Donald] and you know the quarterback and then you watch the schemes and nothing’s really different. It’s two really good schemes on both sides of the ball and two great players and looks very similar and the result was very similar with what they’ve had in the past.”

Topics Discussed:
- Amil & Nate’s takeaways from Week 1’s beatdown
- Can we finally say that Brock Purdy is the real deal?
- Why Brandon Aiyuk is a star in the making
- Nick Bosa’s return to football
- Is Drake Jackson the 49ers’ x-factor?
- Why Nate loved seeing the Seahawks lose to the Rams
- Do the rams have a chance against the 49ers?
