Have you ever wished the day after Super Bowl Sunday was a national holiday? Well, that could soon be a reality.

During an appearance on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show on Friday, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell hinted at changing the NFL schedule—preseason, regular season, and postseason.

“I think we’re good at 17 [games] now. But, listen, we’re looking at how we continue. I’m not a fan of the preseason,” Goodell said on Friday morning. “The reality is, I’d rather replace a preseason game with a regular-season game any day. That’s just picking quality. If we get to 18 and 2, that’s not an unreasonable thing.”

Not only would the regular season schedule get an extra game–and potentially a second BYE week–but the Super Bowl would also be moved to President’s Day Weekend, giving most fans the day after ‘the big game’ off.

“And then you have Monday off,” Goodell said of his vision to move the Super Bowl to the day before President’s Day (the third Monday each February).

International play would also see a boost if Goodell’s hopes come to fruition, something that the NFL has already expanded on in recent years, playing games in England, Germany, Mexico, and more, with games in Spain and Brazil set to take place in 2024-25.

Goodell said he envisions as many as 16 regular-season games being played abroad within the next 10 years.

It’s only been two seasons since the 17-game season was implemented, but it’s looking as if Goodell will strive to make another update to the NFL calendar before his contract expires in 2027.
