Ahead of the Kings’ second matchup with the New Orleans Pelicans, “The Drive Guys” host Kyle Draper sat down with Sacramento assistant coach Luke Loucks to talk about his summer with De’Aaron Fox, working under Mike Brown, and more.
On Monday, Fox was named the NBA’s Western Conference Player of the Week. Over the course of the season, the Kings’ guard is averaging 29.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.8 steals while shooting 52% from the field and 37.5% from three-point land.
Over the summer, Loucks said he and Fox focused on shooting, similar to the previous summer.
“We both feel like, and our staff and our organization feels like, if he can shoot the ball at a consistent level, there’s really no way to guard him,” Loucks said. ”
What was different this summer though, was being able to include Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry in these workouts.
“The first time he worked out with him, he was excited and ready to go,” Loucks said. “But by the end of the workout, his forearms were cramping from not only the volume but how intense everything is. After the workout, Fox is looking at me and I’m like ‘Yeah, this isn’t special.'”
Additional topics discussed include:
- The difficulties guarding Zion Williamson
- How tough the Western Conference matchups have been a month in the season
- More players dealing with injuries and working around that as a team
- De’Aaron Fox’s continued growth and leadership
- Working with Fox in Spain over the summer
- Coaching the Kings’ summer league team
- His shoe game and how he got into sneakers
