According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, the San Antonio Spurs “continue to give off signals behind the scenes” that Leonard won’t be dealt this summer. But that doesn’t suggest that the clear disconnect between Leonard and the Spurs organization has been resolved.

Leonard has been dealing with a bizarre right quad injury, dating back to the end of the 2016-2017 season, that have kept him off the court. According to multiple reports, Leonard has lost faith and trust in the Spurs medical staff to be looking out for his best interests and overall health. That loss of trust has now spread as far as the coaching staff and even teammates.

Spurs forward Pau Gasol told the Sacramento Bee’s Ailene Voisin that Leonard speaks to some of his teammates, but has left many others completely in the dark. It was also reported that Kawhi has gone silent for weeks, not responding to any Spurs texts or phone calls.

The Vertical’s Shams Charania reported on Sunday that Leonard will likely miss the remainder of the playoffs.

Leonard, 26, has one more guaranteed year left on his deal, worth $20.1 million. His contract includes a player option for the 2019-2020 season.

The San Antonio Spurs currently trail the Golden State Warriors two games to none in their opening round playoff series.
