As all 30 MLB teams report for Spring Training this week, some players are still in the process of working their way back from injuries.
The San Francisco Giants have several players rehabbing from injury, with recently acquired 2021 Cy Young Award winner Robbie Ray at the top of the list regarding anticipated returns.
With pitchers and catchers having reported to Scottsdale, Arizona, on Wednesday for workouts, here are some updates on Ray and other Giants who hope to return sooner rather than later.
The Giants signed right-hander Austin Warren to a one-year contract. He had Tommy John surgery last year but has some big league experience as a reliever for the Angels. Robbie Ray went on 60-day IL to clear a spot.

San Francisco Giants Injury Updates
Robbie Ray | Pitcher | Torn Left UCL (Tommy John Surgery)
While Robbie Ray is on track to return this summer from Tommy John surgery that was conducted on his left arm, the Cy Young winner was placed on the 60-day injured list to clear a roster spot for right-hander Austin Warren.
Ray, 32, is throwing three times per week as he continues his ramp-up from surgery in anticipation of joining San Francisco’s rotation during the summer months.
Projected return: Post All-Star break in July
Austin Slater | Outfielder | Bone Spur, Right Elbow
Outfielder Austin Slater is nearing the end of his rehab and could be cleared in time for exhibition games once they begin next weekend.
Slater will have to complete a throwing program before he is fully cleared for game action, but the 31-year-old is on track after having a bone spur removed from his right elbow in October.
Projected return: Late February or Early March
Reggie Crawford | Pitcher | Lat Strain
San Francisco’s number-eight prospect might be sidelined for 3-4 weeks and will not throw as he recovers from a lat strain, per Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area.
The 23-year-old has previously been a two-way player as a pitcher and hitter, but will reportedly focus on pitching going forward once he returns from the injury.
Projected return: March
Alex Cobb | Pitcher | Hip surgery
Cobb, one of the Giants’ strongest arms during the 2023 season (7-7, 3.87 ERA) is progressing well after undergoing surgery on his hip to “address his labrum and ongoing impingement issues.”
The 36-year-old will be limited during Spring Training, but could return as soon as May if he continues to progress in his recovery.
Projected return: May-June
