DAVIS, Calif. – After its impressive 44-38 victory over San José State in last Thursday’s season opener, UC Davis will host the first of five games taking place at Aggie Stadium this season when the San Diego Toreros visit campus for Saturday’s 7 p.m. game.

This is the second time in as many seasons that the Aggies will face San Diego in its inaugural home game of the season as UC Davis won last year’s matchup, 35-7, to extend its lead in the all-time series to a 5-1 margin. This weekend’s contest is the fifth head-to-head game on the Aggies’ home turf; they collected wins in each of those games and suffered its only loss of series in San Diego back in 2008.

San Diego’s first two visits to UC Davis hold special significance. The inaugural meeting, which took place on Nov. 25, 2006, was the last game ever played at Toomey Field. That game also marked the last loss suffered by former San Diego head coach (and current Michigan head coach) Jim Harbaugh. In 2007, the Toreros took on the Aggies in the November 17 season finale, the last game ever coached by beloved assistant Fred Arp.

UC Davis Athletics will honor one of the pillars of the football program throughout the entire day, starting at 11 a.m. inside the ARC Pavilion when it hosts the Celebration of Life, a special event honoring Arp and his five decades invested with the Aggies as a student-athlete, assistant coach, staff member, supporter and friend.

Saturday’s Celebration of Life is open to the public, a hosted reception will follow.

Later that night, Jane Arp (Fred’s wife) will join the team as its honorary captain, both for the midfield coin toss and on the sidelines throughout the Aggies’ home opener.

With a win, UC Davis will start its season with a 2-0 record for the first time since 2004 when it opened that year with victories at home versus South Dakota State and at Weber State.

Game Two
