The NFL offseason saw plenty of movement between the quarterback and wide receiver positions.

One of the teams that has a new quarterback behind center is the Las Vegas Raiders. This offseason, the team signed Jimmy Garoppolo to a 3-year, $67.5 million contract, pairing him up with star wide receiver Davante Adams.

Despite recent reports of health uncertainty for Garopppolo, the QB and WR pairing has some intrigued. Can Davante Adams build upon his successful 2022 season with a new quarterback?

Last season, Adams surpassed Raiders legend Tim Brown to become the new franchise single-season receiving yards record-holder, amassing 1,516 receiving yards.

Kevin Patra of NFL.com ranked the new pairing of Garoppolo and Adams sixth, behind former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr in his new home of New Orleans with wide receiver Chris Olave.

Garoppolo thrives over the middle and gets the ball out quickly, and he can use Adams’ otherworldly ability to win off the line of scrimmage to generate chunk yardage. Playing in Josh McDaniels’ system should fit the quarterback like a glove, and his ability to complete passes under pressure will be key behind a questionable offensive line. According to Next Gen Stats, Jimmy G’s 118.3 passer rating when under pressure in 2022 was the highest mark for a single season in the NGS era (since 2016).

In his first season in Vegas, Adams was everything we expected. Earning first-team All-Pro honors for the third straight year, Adams racked up 1,516 yards and 14 TDs with a career-high average of 15.2 yards per catch while playing with close friend Derek Carr. You’d expect the YPC to dip a tad with Garoppolo tossing Davante the pigskin, but there is zero question Adams remains squarely among the cream of the crop at his position.

What could slow the pair is the uncertainty of Garoppolo’s health heading into the 2023 season. But if all system are go by training camp, there’s no reason to doubt these two create magic in Las Vegas.
