3 Sacramento Republic players featured in USL Week 16 Team of the Week

The Sacramento Republic has been on a hot streak lately, winning matches and accolades this season.
Sacramento Republic FC announced Tuesday that three players have been named to the USL Championship’s Week 16 Team of the Week. Receiving flowers this week are defenders Jack Gurr and Damia Viader, and midfielder Luis Felipe as well. Gurr and Felipe made first-team selections, while Viader earned a spot on the bench this time around.
The trio were involved in all three of the Republic’s goals over the weekend, defeating San Antonio FC 3-1. The win put Sacramento back in first place of the league standings at 32 points.

Gurr has earned his fourth Team of the Week selection this season, last doing so in Week 12 after playing the club’s victory over Hartford Athletic. The Englishman scored his fourth goal of the season Saturday, after securing a penalty off his side earlier in the match.
Felipe earned his third selection to the league’s top squad in 2023, last being named Week 7 on the Team of the Week Bench. The American-born midfielder secured. the game-sealing goal in the 89th minute Saturday.
Tasked with a free kick outside of the box, Felipe curled a lovely strike with his left boot, hitting the top right corner of the net. The goal became the final nail in the coffin Saturday, with the Republic winning the match thereafter.

Viader also earned his first Team of the Week honors Saturday, assisting on Gurr’s 38th minute strike. The left back was also pivotal in the backline, ending the night with nine recoveries and 8/14 on one-on-one duels.
Sacramento Republic FC is back in action this Saturday, hosting Rio Grande Valley FC. The match starts at 8 p.m. local time from Heart Health Park and will be broadcast live on FOX40. The contest will also be streaming on ESPN+.
