Sacramento Republic FC to host Monterey Bay in U.S. Open Cup Round of 32

It’s officially official: The Sacramento Republic will host their debut match in the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup next month.

Sacramento Republic FC announced Thursday that they will be hosting their draw in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 on Tuesday, May 7th. The Quails will make their 2024 cup debut against fellow USL Championship side Monterey Bay FC, hoping to make a splash like in years’ past.

The fixture was drawn Thursday morning by the USOC committee, locking in the Republic to an extra game at Heart Health Park.

Sacramento was amongst a group of the top seven teams from the 2023 USL Championship regular season and the league champion, as well as eight Major League Soccer clubs, to enter the competition at the Round of 32 stage. The Quails finished atop the Western Conference table last season.

The 2024 U.S. Open Cup competition features changes to the structure, with the next two rounds of the tournament played in four-team brackets. Based primarily by geographical location, The Republic landed in the Lopez Division, named after the team’s captain, Rodrigo Lopez. They will be joined by Monterey Bay F.C., Oakland Roots SC, and San Jose Earthquakes.

Next month’s clash between Sacramento and Monterey Bay will be the first meeting in Open Cup play, The Indomitable Club has never lost to a USL Championship team in the Open Cup, going 6-0 all-time against league foes. The Republic has been remarkable in the tournament the past few years, making the cup final in 2022.

Tickets for Heart Health Park match will become available to the general public at 1:00 p.m. on April 19th at SacRepublicFC.com/Tickets. The cup tie will take place be streamed live on USOpenCup.com and USLSoccer.com.

Sacramento Republic FC are back in action this Saturday, heading to Southern California for a clash with Orange County SC. Both clubs currently hold a tie over the top spot in the USL Championship Western Conference.

Kickoff from Championship Soccer Stadium in Irvine, California is set for 7:00 p.m. PT. The match be broadcast live in English and Spanish on FOX40, Antenna TV 40.2, and streaming on FOX40.com, the FOX40 News mobile app, and ESPN+.
