Sacramento Republic FC captain Rodrigo Lopez named to USL Championship Week 6 Team of the Week

The Sacramento Republic remain unbeaten through the first six weeks of the new league year, with Rodrigo Lopez earning more flowers after Saturday’s performance.

Sacramento Republic FC’s captain was named to the USL Championship Week 6 Team of the Week Tuesday. Lopez has been instrumental in The Quails’ hot start to 2024, including providing the team’s lone goal in 1-1 draw against FC Tulsa this past Saturday, keeping them unbeaten for the season.

The Republic have featured on league accolades through the season, with both forward Russell Cicerone and defender Lee Desmond making Team of the Week a game prior. Lopez earned Team of the Week honors in Week 4 as well. This is the 16th selection of his storied career.

Rodrigo “RoRo” Lopez opened the scoring for both squads in the 33rd minute, slotting home a left-footed strike from just outside the 18-yard-box. The goal was assisted by midfielder Luis Felipe.

Lopez was also a major contributor in the midfield and defense throughout the contest. He finished the match with five shots and two chances created, while completing 84% of his passes. The long-time Quail was also successful on 9/14 one-on-one duels, holding the visitors to only two attempts on target.

The Republic are back in action this Saturday, heading to Southern California for a clash with Orange County SC. Both clubs currently hold a tie over the top spot in the USL Championship Western Conference.
