At long last, Nick Bosa has been paid by the 49ers.
Reports surfaced Wednesday afternoon that the San Francisco 49ers and the defensive end have agreed to a five-year, $170 million extension. The deal makes Bosa the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history, surpassing Aaron Donald of the Los Angeles Rams. His contract also includes $122.5 million guaranteed and a $50 million signing bonus, the most for a non-quarterback in league history.
The deal was reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter Wednesday, with local outlets confirming thereafter.

Nick Bosa, 25, is coming off a massive 2022 season, leading the league in sacks (18.5). He also registered 48 quarterback hits, 51 combined tackles and two forced fumbles last year. His play earned All-Pro and Defensive Player of the Year honors, the first for the young pass rusher.
Kyle Shanahan said Nick Bosa is not with the #49ers right now, "but he's trying to get here as fast as possible" after the sides agreed to the long-term extension.

There was some serious doubt over the deal getting done this week, with only days to go before the 49ers season opener. If the deal wasn’t completed by Sunday, Bosa would not have been out there against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Thankfully, that isn’t the case, with the coaching staff learning of the news right before speaking with the media.
“He’d have to have a beer belly and be out of shape or something. And that’s not in Bosa’s DNA,” coach Kyle Shanahan said with a smirk about Bosa’s chances of playing this Sunday.
The coach also revealed that the star pass rusher should be in-bound to Santa Clara today, hoping to get back on the practice field Thursday.
“I’m happy to have my friend back. I’m happy for him,” left tackle Trent Williams stated about Bosa’s deal.
The star pass rusher also shared his excitement to end the holdout, posting a picture to his Instagram with the caption “Shall we”.
We shall.
