San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has made substantial progress in his recovery from off-season elbow surgery. So much so that he is ready to begin practicing with the team this week.
San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch relayed to the media Tuesday that Purdy will not be put on the active/physically unable to perform [PUP] list to start training camp this week. The QB will begin training camp Thursday with the starters. He will have limitations early on, taking every third day off during training camp for about two weeks.
Regardless, the good news is that Purdy is ready to get back on the field in a big capacity.
“He’s cleared, without restriction,” John Lynch said Tuesday. “The great news is Brock has worked his tail off and he’s ready to go.”
Wow Brock Purdy will not be placed on PUP list to start Training Camp, meaning he is cleared to start with first team reps tomorrow. They will take a cautious approach each day, but a very good sign for the second-year standout. #49ers

Brock Purdy, 24, underwent surgery on a torn UCL in his throwing elbow in March. The Arizona native has been progressing in his rehabilitation well all summer, splitting time between California, Arizona and most recently Florida.
Expected to be ready to go by Week 1 of the regular season, Purdy’s initial 12-week timeline puts him back on the field by the last week of August. That is no longer the case, now expected to work his way back to game shape this week.
“He looks like Brock,” Kyle Shanahan added.
