San Francisco Giants pitcher Logan Webb finished second in the NL’s Cy Young Award race.

MLB announced the winners Wednesday afternoon, with former San Diego Padre pitcher and rumored Giants’ free agent target Blake Snell claiming the award. New York Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole was named the AL Cy Young Award winner. Snell becomes only the seventh pitcher to win the Cy Young Award in both leagues, previously winning in 2018 with the Tampa Bay Rays.

This was the first time Webb, a Rocklin native, was named as one of the nominees for Major League Baseball’s top pitching accolade. The 26-year-old pitcher received one first-place vote and 17 second-place votes, the most second-place votes of all pitches nominated. Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen finished third.

It was a rocky season for the Giants, but Webb remained a constant for a team that struggled to find consistency in the batter’s box.

Webb, who posted an 11-13 record, 3.25 ERA, and 1.07 WHIP over 33 starts, received little run support from his San Francisco teammates during the 2023 season. In fact, Webb ranked dead-last in run support among all MLB starters with 20 or more starts (3.09 runs per start).
