While the 49ers fell short of their Super Bowl dreams, like general manager John Lynch said, you have to use it as fuel for next season.

The San Francisco 49ers will host nine opponents at home during the 2024 regular season, three of which are AFC franchises. That also includes two teams they played most recently, the Detroit Lions and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Exact dates have not been confirmed at this time, but it’s never too early to look ahead to next season.

Arizona Cardinals

The 49ers and Cardinals have matched up against each other since 1951, with the former holding the all-time record at 36-29. Since 2001, both teams have been divisional foes in the NFC West, with hotly-contested games over the last 23 years.

SF has had all the success in recent years, winning the last four matchups against Arizona. The two last met in Week 15 of the 2023 regular season, with the visiting 49ers winning, 45-29. However, the Cardinals finished the game with more total yards than the 49ers (436), including a 90-yard advantage on the ground.

Facing them twice more in 2024, these divisional clashes should be competitive affairs for the foreseeable future.

Chicago Bears

The 49ers and Bears also share a storied history, meeting 69 times since 1950. SF holds the all-time record over Chicago by a slight margin (35-33-1).

Chicago won the most recent matchup, 19-10, in Week 1 of the 2022 regular season. A game invaded by a monsoon in The Windy City saw SF accumulate more total yards (331) than the home side. But, the Bears made their drives count, scoring 12 points in the fourth quarter to end Week 1 with a win.

Chicago will travel west in 2024, looking to extend that streak to two games over the 49ers.

Dallas Cowboys

Quite possibly the biggest rivalry in the NFC, the 49ers-Cowboys have delivered the goods for decades.

San Francisco has been the sole victor as of late, winning the last three matchups. The 49ers took the lead in the all-time series in 2023 (20-19-1), which includes two playoff losses to the Red & Gold, by a combined margin of 14 points.

The 49ers last hosted the Cowboys in Week 5 of last season, dismantling them, 42-10. SF generated 420 total yards of offense, while the defense picked off quarterback Dak Prescott three times on primetime.

Dallas will travel to The Bay in 2024, looking for revenge.

Detroit Lions

Another historic pairing in the NFC, the 49ers and Lions don’t meet often, but always deliver thrilling contests.

SF saw Detroit most recently in the 2023 NFC Championship game, overcoming a multi-score deficit to win, 34-31. The 49ers are ahead in the all-time series as well, at 40-28-1. They have won the last three contests against the Lions.

In the NFC Championship, the Lions out-gained the 49ers in yards (442) but fell short in the second half to end their postseason run. While the Lions have only recently found sustained success, future matchups between the two promise to the fiery.

Kansas City Chiefs

The 49ers’ kryptonite rolls into Levi’s Stadium in 2024.

SF and KC have met only 16 times in NFL history, first doing so in 1971. The Chiefs have had the upper hand recently, however, winning the last four contests. That includes two Super Bowl wins over the Red & Gold, leaving their opposition in disarray both times. KC has a 9-7-1 advantage in the all-time series.

The 49ers will look to change the narrative next season when they face them at home.

Los Angeles Rams

The biggest rivalry in the NFC West over the last half-decade, the 49ers and Rams will meet two more times next season.

The two rivals first met in 1950, now sharing a whopping 150 contests in NFL history. San Francisco has the all-time record over their divisional foe at 78-69-3. While the Rams won their most recent meeting in Week 18 of last season (21-20), the 49ers enjoyed a three-game win streak prior to that. The Rams lost six consecutive contests before that.

The point is that the 49ers have dominated in recent memory.

New England Patriots

SF-New England have a short history, only playing one another on 14 occasions. However, the franchises are forever connected by a gutsy trade for a young starting quarterback in 2017.

The 49ers are 9-5 against the Patriots all-time, last meeting in 2020. That game ended in a massive victory for the Red & Gold, 33-6. QB Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 277 yards but also threw two interceptions against his former team. The 49ers’ run game carried the load however, with running back Jeff Wilson rushing for 112 yards and three scores.

2024 will see New England fly cross-country to avenge the loss.

New York Jets

Another AFC East foe, the Jets come to town next season.

San Francisco-New York have only met 14 times in NFL history. The 49ers have a commanding lead all-time at 11-3. The Red & Gold enjoyed a five-game win streak from 1986-2001, but have faced a steep challenge in recent times. San Francisco won most recently in 2020, 31-13.

Since then, Robert Saleh departed for the Gang Green and will face his former squad for the first time at Levi’s Stadium.

Seattle Seahawks

Finally, the 49ers and Seahawks, arguably the most intense NFC West rivalry over the last 20 years.

San Francisco trails Seattle on the all-time scoreboard (30-22), but have been cutting the deficit the last two seasons. The 49ers are currently on a five-game win streak over their rivals. All of those wins have come without QB Russell Wilson on the other side, who holds a 17-4 record when facing SF.

The 49ers’ most recent victory came in Week 14 last season, beating the Seahawks, 28-16.

The hostile foes will meet up twice more in 2024.
