Report: A’s offer 1B Nick Kurtz long-term extension

On the heels of a memorable rookie season, the Athletics are looking to keep Nick Kurtz in green and gold for the long haul.

According to The New York Post‘s Joel Sherman, the A’s have made a long-term contract extension offer to Kurtz that would take the 22-year-old through his arbitration season, akin to the deals that teammates Tyler Soderstrom, Jacob Wilson, and Lawrence Butler signed over the past year.

Per Sherman, there is no indication whether Kurtz and his agency, MN2S, will accept the offer before the 2026 MLB season begins next month.

Unlike past years, when the Athletics shipped off young talent rather than establish long-term stability by signing players to contract extensions, the A’s did the latter this offseason.

American League Rookie of the Year runner-up and All-Star shortstop Jacob Wilson inked a seven-year, $70 million extension that will keep him in green and gold through the 2032 season.

Left fielder and first baseman Tyler Soderstrom, fresh off a 25-home run season in 2025, signed a seven-year, $86 million deal.

With slugger Brent Rooker and outfielder Lawrence Butler also on long-term deals, the Athletics roster has some franchise staples to build around, and we haven’t even gotten to the main centerpiece of it all.

There are few hitters who have burst onto the MLB scene with as much dominance as Nick Kurtz did during the 2025 season, and the reigning AL Rookie of the Year is just getting started.

Nick Kurtz, just 22 years old, mashed 36 home runs and drove in 86 runs after being called up in late April. The fourth-overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft batted .290 and posted a 1.002 on-base-plus-slugging percentage, good enough for second in the American League, only trailing New York Yankees’ MVP outfielder Aaron Judge.

Kurtz became somewhat of a household name for baseball fans last season on July 25th when he mashed four home runs and drove in eight runs.

‘The Big Amish’ finished the night 6-for-6 with four home runs, a double, and a single, tying the Major League Baseball record with 19 total bases. He also drove in eight runs and scored six times, becoming just the 20th player in MLB history to record a four-home run game — and the first rookie ever to accomplish the feat.

The performance placed Nick Kurtz alongside Shawn Green as the only players in league history to combine four homers and six hits in a single game. It also marked the first six-hit game by an A’s player since 1955.
