When the Las Vegas Raiders made Antonio Pierce their interim coach and Champ Bailey their interim general manager, they did something that no other team in the NFL currently has constructed.
The two join team president Sandra Douglass Morgan as the organization’s leader, making the Raiders the only team in the NFL to have a Black coach, Black general manager, and Black President.
“I don’t take it lightly. There is not many people from my background, grew up from where I grew up, to be in front of this stage, to have this kind of responsibility,” Pierce said earlier this week. “But more importantly, when you look at the Raiders’ history, going back to Art Shell and everything that he did as one of the first black African American coaches, and being successful doing it as a player then as a coach within this organization, and then Tom Flores. It wasn’t until I saw it on paper, I said, ‘Whoa, wow, that’s different.’”

Pierce went on to say he looks at himself as a leader, not just for his team, but for everyone outside the organization.
“Listen, you could do it. If I did it, I know you could do it. Guarantee that,” Pierce said. “So, hopefully they believe in a dream like I did and work their asses off to get there.”
