The Sacramento Kings have received a lot of praise from the national media over the last few weeks thanks to a superb seven-game win streak in November.

A franchise known as the laughing stock of the NBA for the last decade and a half, players and personalities alike have taken notice of “The Beam Team” here in Sactown. Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant was one of the first, crediting the Purple & Grey during recent postgame press conferences and interviews.

Now Ringer CEO/founder Bill Simmons is buying into the hype, ranking the Kings in the middle tier of NBA teams this season. Placing them in the category of “let’s give them another month” teams, Simmons stated that he loves watching Sacramento play, despite them having an 10-9 record through the quarter mark of the regular season.

“Sacramento is my favorite team in the league other than the [Boston] Celtics,” Simmons stated on the most recent episode of his podcast “The Bill Simmons Podcast“. “I watch as much of their games as possible. They have the most players that I like on one team. I love [Domantas] Sabonis. You know how I feel about Malik Monk. I kept all my stock, now I feel like it’s like having Apple stock from 2002, he’s fantastic. [De’Aaron] Fox, they trade [Tyrese] Haliburton to kind of give Fox the ball, Fox is now really fun to watch. He was somebody I never liked watching, I’ve enjoyed them this year. I love [Kevin] Huerter, I’m excited about Keegan Murray, and they’re just really fun.”

The sports media bigwig took it a step further with a wrestling analogy, comparing the Sacramento Kings to a fun wrestler that doesn’t always win his matches, but puts on a good show for the fans nonetheless.

“They’re the Kevin Owens of the NBA,” Simmons added. “They’re probably going to lose half their matches, maybe they’ll win 53% of their matches. The matches are always fun and the sellout for the other team, the other team ends up looking great in the game no matter what happened. So I like Sacramento.”
