The San Francisco 49ers are banged up entering the weekend, with Deebo Samuel officially in doubt to play this Sunday.
The 49ers wide receiver has been officially listed as questionable for Week 4 by the team. Samuel has been held out of practice all week due to knee and rib injuries sustained in Week 3’s win over the New York Giants.
Initially thought to be minor concerns, Samuel’s absence from the practice field suggests much more is at play. He has been spotted doing work off to the side of the field Friday, giving him at least a chance to play against the Arizona Cardinals.
“It was something we didn’t really know until the next day, later in that day. Just him being sore and stuff. He didn’t realize it until later,” coach Kyle Shanahan said about Deebo Samuel Wednesday.

Doubtful
WR Jauan Jennings (shin)
Questionable
WR Deebo Samuel (ribs, knee)
RB Elijah Mitchell (knee)
LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (ankle)
LB Dre Greenlaw (ankle)
WR Brandon Aiyuk (shoulder) is fine.
Samuel also addressed the injuries Friday, mentioning that the knee problem is more concerning than his ribs. However, he could still suit up, wanting to play as much as possible this season.
“I feel pretty good…We’ll just see how I continue to progress for the next couple of days and then we’ll just see what happens,” Samuel stated Friday.
San Francisco could also be without WR Jauan Jennings this weekend, listed as doubtful due to a shin injury. That would allow other pass catchers, like rookie Ronnie Bell, the opportunity to impress.
The 49ers did get some positive injuries this week though, with WR Brandon Aiyuk “good to go” for Week 4. Aiyuk has battled a shoulder injury since Week 2, being held out of last Thursday’s game. Making it through practice all week, there will be no restrictions for stud wideout this Sunday.
The Red & Gold also have linebackers Dre Greenlaw (ankle) and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (ankle) listed as questionable. Both men are expected to play through the injuries, however, giving the defense an almost fully healthy unit.
Running back Elijah Mitchell is the latest player to make the injury report, suffering a knee injury in Thursday’s practice. He is listed as questionable for the clash with the Cardinals.
