Sacramento Kings center Domantas Sabonis made history Thursday night.

During his 24-point, 21-rebound effort in the Kings’ win over the Brooklyn Nets, the center passed Otis Thorpe (1987-88) for the most rebounds in a single season during the Sacramento era by pulling down his 838th board of the year. Thorpe moves to number two on the list with 837 and DeMarcus Cousins is third with 831 rebounds in a single season.

His double-double was also his 56th of the season, tying the Kings’ single-season franchise record set by Tiny Archibald in 1972-73.

The Kings’ center also became the first player this season with at least 20 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks in the first half of a game while joining MVP candidate Giannis Antetokounmpo as the only players with 20 points and 10 boards in an opening half.

After the game, coach Mike Brown said Domantas Sabonis sets the tone for the whole team.

“He sets the tone for us with his physicality, and he was great tonight because we stay on him about it, but he’s got to continue to play as hard as he does, as physical as he does, but do it while showing his hands so that he doesn’t get in early foul trouble.”
