The 49ers have had a lot of success despite the rotating door of rotational players on defense. But what happens when one of those players leaves for greener pastures and has to face their former employer? Well if you’re Charles Omenihu, you can’t wait for the revenge game.

The former San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman is expected to face the his former squad in 2024. Entering his second season with the Kansas City Chiefs, the champions will see their Super Bowl LVIII opponent during the 2024 NFL regular season. What makes this meeting so important for Omenihu however, is that he finally gets to play against the 49ers, missing out on the opportunity last two months prior.

“I saw our schedule come out, and we do have [the 49ers] on the schedule next year. I am hoping that it is around the time where I will be back [from his torn ACL] because I really really want to be available for that game, Omenihu said on “Up And Adams” this week.

Charles Omenihu, 26, suffered a torn ACL in the AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens a week earlier. The injury halted a successful first season with KC, recording a career-high seven sacks in 11 regular-season games played in 2023. Now looking to be healthy in time to play his former team, the Houston native is itching to make his presence felt with KC.

Omenihu signed a three-year, $30 million deal with the Chiefs during the 2023 offseason. He played one-and-a-half seasons with the Red & Gold, traded to the west coast at the 2022 trade deadline from the Houston Texans. He grew into his role under defensive line coach Kris Kocurek, becoming a focal rotation piece in the pass rush.

During his 49ers tenure, he played 32 total games, recording eight total sacks and 29 tackles. He also two forced fumbles and four pass break-ups. Unfortunately, his SF tenure ended with the expiration of his deal, looking to cash in elsewhere.

Other ex-49ers have followed suit in recent years, with a mass exodus occurring in 2024. Those names include DLs Arik Armstead, Randy Gregory, Chase Young and Javon Kinlaw.
