Sacramento’s most-recent first-round picks are heading to All-Star weekend
Sacramento Kings guards Tyrese Haliburton and Davion Mitchell were both named to the NBA’s rosters for the Rising Stars Challenge that will take place during All-Star weekend on February 18th in Cleveland, Ohio.
Haliburton was named to the Rising Stars team as a rookie during the 2020-21 season, but the game was not played as the NBA cut down on All-Star weekend festivities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his second season of NBA action, Haliburton has taken massive strides towards becoming a premier player in the league as the 21-year-old holds season averages of 14.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.6 steals per game on 46-percent shooting from the field and 42-percent shooting from beyond the arc.
Over his last 22 games, Haliburton has posted nine double-doubles.
Rookie guard Davion Mitchell will be joining Haliburton in Cleveland as the 23-year-old will get to showcase his tenacious defense on a large stage at All-Star weekend.
In 46 appearances this season, Mitchell has posted 9.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists and just under a steal per game. With De’Aaron Fox sidelined due to an ankle injury, Mitchell has looked strong in the starting lineup, having averaged 17.7 points and 5.7 assists per game on 39-percent shooting from three-point land over his past three games.
The Rising Stars Challenge will take place at 6:00pm PST on Friday, February 18th.
