Andy Thompson, head coach of the Sacramento State Hornets joined Sactown Sports Friday morning, ahead of the team’s game Saturday night against #2 Montana State.
The team is 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the Big Sky Conference. This weekend’s home game is available to fans on ESPN2.
Before discussing this weekend’s matchup, Dave and Jason asked Coach Thompson about recent comments made by Mike Brown. The Kings coach started a recent media scrum by shouting out the Sac State football, basketball, and golf programs.

“He’s been awesome. He’s been really good and when I got the job, I got a chance to have a really good conversation with him, and he gave me some great advice of just ‘Be yourself. You got an opportunity to lead, do it the way you think is best’,” Thompson said. “I’ve really tried to take that and run with it because he’s done a great job in his career. To have somebody like that in your corner has been great.”
Additional topics discussed include:
- The State of the Union on the Hornets season
- Representing Sacramento with strong play throughout the season
- Saturday’s challenge with Montana State
