Kings Acquire Alec Burks And Harrison Barnes

The Sacramento Kings had a very busy Wednesday night, less than 24 hours before the NBA trade deadline, making two separate trades acquiring Alec Burks, Harrison Barnes, and a second-round pick.
The first trade of the night saw the Kings acquire Alec Burks and a second-round pick from the Cleveland Cavaliers as part of a three-team deal. Sacramento sent Iman Shumpert to the Houston Rockets while the Cavaliers received Brandon Knight from the Rockets.
Later on Wednesday night, the Kings acquired Harrison Barnes from the Dallas Mavericks and sent Justin Jackson and Zach Randolph to the Mavs.
Burks is 27-years-old and is in his eighth season in the NBA. He spent the first seven plus seasons of his career with the Utah Jazz before being traded to the Cavaliers earlier this season. So far this year, Burks is averaging 10.6 points per game in more than 24 minutes per night. He has played in 51 games, starting in 24 and is shooting 40.3/37.7/82.4. Burks current contract expires at the end of this season.
Barnes is 26-years-old and is currently in his seventh season. Barnes was the seventh overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft and signed with the Mavericks before the 2016 season. He has started in 48 games this season, averaging 17.8 points per game shooting 40.6/39.0/83.3. His 39 percent shooting from the 3-point line is the best he’s shot from deep since 2014-15 while also averaging a career-high 6.4 3-point attempts per game. Barnes is in the third year of a four-year deal that includes a $25 million player option for the 2019-20 season. The Kings reportedly have long-term plans to keep Barnes, according to sources.
The Kings are using the remaining $10.5 million of cap space in order to acquire Barnes. If Barnes chooses to opt-in to the last year of his deal, Sacramento will $21 million in cap space for 2019-20 or $45.2 million if he opts-out.
The Kings are currently 28-25 and are a game behind the Los Angeles Clippers for the last playoff spot in the Western Conference.
