A’s SS Jacob Wilson Named American League Rookie of the Month

A’s infielder Jacob Wilson has been named the American League Rookie of the Month for May. He is the first A’s player to win a monthly award since Mason Miller was named Reliever of the Month for March/April, 2024. He is the first A’s player to win Rookie of the Month since Zack Gelof won the award in August, 2023.

In May, Wilson hit .368 with a .975 OPS, four home runs, three steals, 11 walks, and just eight strikeouts.

Jacob Wilson’s average and OPS led AL Rookies and his four homers ranked tied for second, behind only Nick Kurtz (5). In May, Wilson had 14 multi-hit games, tied with Freddie Freeman for most in the Majors. For the season, he leads all MLB rookies in hits (81), average (.355), on-base percentage (.393), slugging (.504), OPS (.898), and multi-hit games (24).

The last A’s shortstop to win AL Rookie of the Month was Bobby Crosby in June, 2004, who went on to win Rookie of the Year and currently serves as the A’s first base coach.
