Barry Bonds, Major League Baseball’s home run king, was the most recent Giants hitter to hit 30 or more home runs, which he achieved during the 2004 season.

Following a stunning blockbuster deal that will bring three-time All-Star third baseman and designated hitter Rafael Devers to San Francisco, the Giants may soon see that lengthy drought come to an end.

Devers, who was traded from Boston to San Francisco on Sunday afternoon, has mashed 30+ home runs in three of his nine big-league seasons and 27 or more in two other campaigns.

Through 73 games this season, the 28-year-old has hit 15 home runs, putting him on pace for well over 30 homers.

Five-time Gold Glove award winner Matt Chapman (hand sprain) is working his way back from the injured list, but he will assume the day-to-day duties at third base upon his return. Starting catcher Patrick Bailey (neck strain) is also on the injured list.

This means that Devers, who refused to play first base for Boston, could be in play at that spot for San Francisco, but will likely receive most of his reps at the designated hitter position.
