Contract: 5-year, $264 million
Grade: A
3 pm PST: Devin Booker agrees to supermax extension with the Phoenix Suns
Contract: 4-year, $214 million
Grade: A-
A no-brainer move for the Suns as Devin Booker is just starting to enter his prime at age 25. Making his first All-NBA team last season, Book averaged 26.8 ppg, 5 rpg, 4.8 apg in 21-22, leading the Suns to the best record in the NBA.
An elite scorer entering the better part of his career, the sky is the limit for Booker.
3 pm PST: Bradley Beal intends to re-sign with the Washington Wizards
Contract: 5-year, $251 million
Grade: C
Love Beal’s abilities on the basketball court, hate the contract. At his best, Bradley is a second option on a contending team but by giving him the 10-year max, the Wizards are looking at a similar situation they faced with John Wall in 2019.
Don’t expect the Wizards and Beal to stay together throughout the entirely of this contract as the last three years equal more than $50 million per season for a player entering his 30s.
3 pm PST: Victor Oladipo intends to re-sign with the Miami Heat
Contract: 1-year, $11 million
Grade: B+
A good move for the Miami Heat to bring back their perimeter depth in Oladipo. Even though he’s often injured, Vic showed real signs of his former all-star self last season, despite his limited playing time.
This is a win-now move for Miami that keeps their culture together.
3 pm PST: Malik Monk intends to sign with the Sacramento Kings
Contract: 2-year, $19 million
Grade: B
This was first reported by James Ham of The Kings beat earlier today and now it’s official: Malik Monk is coming to Sacramento to play alongside his former Kentucky teammate De’Aaron Fox.
The move should be seen as a good one for Kings fans as Monk is a certified bucket-getter that showed real improvement on the Lakers last season. The Kings certainly need more perimeter defense, but it doesn’t hurt to get another above average shot creator on a fairly reasonable deal.
3 pm PST: Jalen Brunson intends to sign with the New York Knicks
Contract: 5-year, $106 million
Grade: B
Brunson joining his hometown New York Knicks seemed more of a formality as the president of basketball operations Leon Rose and Worldwide West had zeroed in on Brunson after hiring his father, Rick, to their coaching staff earlier this offseason. The signing became even more apparent after the Knicks cleared $30 million in cap space by trading away Nerlens Noel and Alec Burks to the Pistons Tuesday. The move is a good one for the Knicks as Brunson is only 25-years-old, establishing himself as a valuable contributor during the playoffs last season.
The staggering part comes with the contract as five years, $106 million seems to be a bit of an overpay for a player that hasn’t made an all-star team yet. Still, the move is a step in the right direction as Knicks fans should be excited to have an above average playoff point guard on the roster, even if it isn’t the splashiest of moves.
