Sacramento Kings GM Scott Perry is reportedly being linked to bringing in one of his former draft picks as Mitchell Robinson is set to his free agency.

Current Sacramento Kings general manager Scott Perry joined the team last offseason after spending six seasons with the New York Knicks. Now, he’s reportedly being connected to adding one of his former draft picks, Mitchell Robinson, who is set to enter unrestricted free agency this offseason.

Stefan Bondy, who covers the Knicks for the New York Post, was the one to report Perry’s interest in adding the familiar big.

“Sources around league have pegged Sacramento as a threat to pry Mitchell Robinson away in free agency. Kings GM Scott Perry has long been a fan of Robinson after drafting him in 2018 as a member of Knicks front office.”

On a recent edition of The Drive Guys, Allen Stiles and Kevin “Whitey” Gleason discussed the idea of adding Robinson, which would require altering their current roster in order to create space to add a notable free agent.

“I’m not really sure why the Kings would go in this direction,” Stiles said. “They have counted three centers right now, with obviously Domantas Sabonis and the two youngins that they just brought in, with (Maxime) Raynaud and (Dylan) Cardwell. Mitchell Robinson is a good player, don’t get me wrong, but I’m just not really sure what timeline we’re dealing with here now.”

More on Mitchell Robinson

Perry was part of the New York front office that selected Robinson out of Western Kentucky with the 36th overall pick. That’s proven to be a steal as he’s impressed in his seven-year career.

In 60 games played for the Knicks in 2025-26, Robinson averaged 5.7 points and 8.8 rebounds on 72.3 percent shooting. But it’s his defensive impact that steals the show, evidenced by his 1.2 blocks in 19.6 minutes and countless more shots altered.

Finishing eighth in Sixth Man of the Year voting, he’s also been a key piece in their ongoing postseason run to consecutive Eastern Conference Finals. Given that reality, what would his realistic price range be on the open market, and how could Sacramento clear space in order to offer him a competitive number?

Perhaps a sign-and-trade could be on the table to make something work, but it would take notable changes to their roster to even have a chance at Mitchell Robinson.

Doesn't seem to make much sense, when you have a younger, cheaper almost as good version with Cardwell....who is more durable too?!
Probably just a rumour, or else Perry needs to flat out stop chasing his old guys, haha.
No to Barrett & Quickly also!
