In the time leading up to the June 23rd NBA Draft, Sacramento Kings general manager Scott Perry is surely considering all of his options. One idea that’s been floated is the Oklahoma City Thunder combining their 12th- and 17th-round picks to move up.
Falling to seventh on lottery night, is that a package they should consider in order to pick up another selection? Darryn Peterson, AJ Dybansta, Cameron Boozer, and Caleb Wilson are widely viewed to be the top four.
After that, there are intriguing guards of various styles between Kingston Flemings, Darius Acuff, Keaton Wagler, and Mikel Brown Jr. All of those guys could be off the board if they moved down to 12 and 17, but would the trade off be worth it?
Carmichael Dave discussed the idea of making that move on The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross.
“I think OKC would do that,” he said. “Scott Perry and Sam Presti have worked together before. They made a swap last year. They’ve worked on the same side together before. They have a good relationship. So, I do think this is something to keep an eye on.”
Without a pick in the last draft, Perry traded a future pick to Prestie and the Thunder in exchange for the 24th pick, which they used to draft Nique Clifford. Maybe trading down could be a fallback in case the board doesn’t shape up as they would hope.
“If you have established that there’s not much between seven and 12, depending on who’s off the board, I might tell Sam Presti, ‘Look, here’s the deal, we’ve got the framework. If X player, and let’s assume it’s Acuff, if he’s on the board at seven, we take him. But if he’s not on the board, we’ve got ourselves a deal.”
