Sacramento Republic’s Rodrigo Lopez named to USL Championship Week 4 Team of the Week

The Sacramento Republic have been rolling to start the new league year, captain Rodrigo “RoRo” Lopez one of the key catalysts.

The USL Championship announced Tuesday that Lopez was named to the Week 4 Team of the Week for his performance last Saturday. This is the Sacramento captain’s first weekly accolade of the 2024 season, and his 14th career selection.

Week 4 marked the third time the Quails have been honored by the league in 2024, with other members receiving their flowers in Weeks 1 and 2. Newest forward Trevor Armann was named Player of the Week in Week 1, while wingback Jack Gurr was named to Week 2’s Team of the Week.

Rodrigo Lopez, 36, earned Team of the Week honors for his play in a 1-0 win over Memphis 901 FC. RoRo’s 87th-minute free kick found the boot of Jonathan Ricketts to take a late lead over their opponents, extending the team’s unbeaten run to four matches. Additionally, Lopez led the Republic’s attack on the night, with five chances created, nine crosses, and 18 completed passes in the final third. He also had three successful tackles and won possession on eight occasions.

Rodrigo Lopez and his efforts extended Sacramento’s scoring streak to 10 matches, the longest since 2019. The Quails are one of six teams in the USL Championship to score in each of its first four matches this season.

Sacramento has gotten off to hot start in 2024, continuing the roll from last season. They are unbeaten through the first four weeks, tied atop the western conference standings at eight points. The Republic will look to keep it going next Saturday, heading to Colorado to face Switchbacks FC. Kickoff from Weidner Field is set for 5:00 p.m. PST. The match will be broadcast live in English and Spanish on Antenna TV 40.2 and streaming on FOX40.com, through the FOX40 News mobile app, and on ESPN+.
