The Athletic’s Sam Amick joined “The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross” on Thursday morning to talk about the Kings’ recent loss to Portland, the latest trade rumors swirling around the NBA, and more.

On Tuesday, De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis did everything in their power to lead the Kings to a win, combining for 77 points. But the Kings fell in Portland to a depleted Blazers team. Amick points to this loss as a reason the team should be active before February’s trade deadline.

“I’ve said for a while, if this team wants to contend, they got to be pretty open to significant moves at the trade deadline,” Amick said. “That was the type of loss, that to me is, now you know. And if something’s not there, you can’t force it. So it doesn’t mean something is definitely going to happen. But as far as the ceiling on this team, I thought that was a pretty bad sign.”

Additional topics discussed include:

  • Why the Kings have lost three of their last four games
  • Does Sacramento need to force a trade?
  • The same five names keep surfacing in NBA trade rumors
  • Are the Sacramento Kings too in love with their core?
  • Why teams are still interested in gathering draft picks via trade
  • Breaking down Mark Cuban’s sale of the Dallas Mavericks
  • If there is fire to the Kevin Durant smoke in Phoenix
  • The latest of Draymond Green and his progress
