It’s that time of year again: Report card season! And thankfully, the 49ers got pretty good returns for the 20023 season.

The San Francisco 49ers showed slight improvements from a year prior, ranking sixth in the league on the NFLPA’s second annual franchise report card. The data was released Wednesday, with SF ranking in the top half of most categories.

The Red & Gold improved from seventh on the player union’s first report card in 2023. SF had five categories inside the Top 10 of the NFL, with only two areas raking in the bottom third of the league.

For reference, the debut version of the ranking system was more condensed, adding head coach, owner and dietician/nutritionist as three separate categories.

The 49ers ranked in the Top 8 in five categories which include: Treatment of families (2nd), food/cafeteria (3rd), nutritionist/dietician (8th), locker room (7th), and head coach (7th). Additionally, ownership, weight room, and team travel ranked in the top half of the NFL by the players.

San Francisco has some areas to improve though, particularly the training room and staff. Both areas ranked 24th and 21st respectively, with the players seeing that as the biggest concern.

From the 49ers’ 2024 report card:

The 49ers finish the year ranked 6th overall. The positives for the team start at the top of the organization, with the players giving high marks to the club ownership group and CEO Jed York along with head coach Kyle Shanahan. Responding players also highly ranked the treatment of families and the food program.

The one area that survey respondents believe needs to be prioritized going forward is the training room. The room itself is small with a limited number of treatment tables. Also, the hot/cold tubs are very small, which limits the players’ ability to comfortably use them to either warm up or recover.

SF’s 2023 grades ranked similarly in most areas but saw a drop-off in training facilities and coaches, and in team travel from a year ago.

All in all, the 49ers are seen as one of the premier organizations in the NFL, with the grades relatively reflecting so.
