Sean Cunningham, sports reporter and producer for FOX40, joined Whitey & Watkins to talk about how the Sacramento Kings rookie Colby Jones has played during the NBA’s summer league so far, Victor Wembanyama’s debut, and more.
When asked how pleased the Kings are with Jones, Cunningham said they have to be thrilled.
“Especially as a second-round pick, to see a guy who comes in and really plays a style of basketball where it’s rare where you can see a guy like that and go ‘I can see where he can fit’ and not even on the roster, but even possibly being an actual rotational piece,” Cunningham said, adding Jones’ rebounding has been impressive. “I see why [Sacramento Kings general manager] Monte McNair called him one of the top two two-way players in the draft. I’ve heard a ton of people say they were floored he went in the second round. Yeah, he’s been a lot of fun, I can’t wait for training camp.”
Additional topics discussed include:
- The growth of the NBA’s summer league over the years
- Harry Giles’ attempts to re-join the league
- Does summer league feel different this year with the debut of Victor Wembanyama
- First impressions of Wemby
- His favorite aspects of Jordan Ford’s story
