It’s almost September, meaning that October baseball is right around the corner.
Can the San Francisco Giants dig deep and string together a strong final month of play to make the postseason for the first time since 2021?
The San Francisco Chronicle’s Susan Slusser joined Jason Ross and F.P. Santangelo Jr. to preview the road ahead for the Giants, discuss closer Camilo Doval’s struggles, talk about Rocklin product Logan Webb’s impact on the rotation, and much more.
Plus: Will top prospect Kyle Harrison pitch this weekend against the Atlanta Braves?

Topics Discussed
- Do the Giants deserve to be a playoff team?
- Susan thinks that San Francisco is “really due for a good streak.”
- Should fans be concerned about All-Star closer Camilo Doval’s recent rough stretch?
- This weekend’s Giants vs. Braves series is expected to have a playoff-type feel
- “The whole weekend should just be a blast.”
- Has Logan Webb taken the next step to become San Francisco’s ace?
- How far will rookie pitcher Kyle Harrison go in his next start?
- Susan thinks the Giants want to build Harrison up to five innings.
- Thoughts on Oakland Athletics owner John Fisher’s recent comments about relocating the franchise
As we move closer to September, it’s becoming clear that this National League Wild Card race is coming down to three spots between six teams: Philadelphia, Chicago, Cincinnati, San Francisco, Arizona, and Miami.
There is no shortage of important games on the horizon for the Giants, who currently sit on the outside looking in.
As long as San Francisco is mathematically alive in the NL Wild Card race, every one of the team’s remaining 35 games has immense importance, starting with this weekend’s series against the powerhouse Braves.
If the Giants fall flat and lose two of three or even get swept, it could have dire consequences in the always-changing state of the Wild Card race.
