It took far too long but the Oakland A’s finally got their first victory.

As Major League baseball’s last winless team the A’s finally broke through for win number 1 in 2021 on Wednesday.  The A’s needed a comeback and extra innings to do it but the 4-3 walk off win was much needed for the green and gold.

The A’s began the season by being swept by the Astros in Oakland.  They weren’t close and never had the lead in any game.  They lost on Monday to the defending champion Dodgers and then on Tuesday finally had their first lead of the season after 45 plus innings play.  That lead didn’t last as the Dodgers took game two of the series.  That takes us to Wednesday when the A’s finally broke through but needed some late game heroics to do so.

Oakland was down to their final couple of at bats in the 9thinning when new addition Elvis Andrus hit a sacrifice fly that scored Matt Chapman to tie the game.  The A’s couldn’t plate another run in the 9th but after keeping the Dodgers without a run in the top half of the 10th another new addition saved the day.  Mitch Moreland singled in the winning run and finally the A’s could savor a win.

A’s defeat the Dodgers for their first win of the season (4/7/21)

Next the A’s head to Houston for another series with the Astros.  Let’s see if this game can start a turn around for the defending American League West Champs.
